DMV to Modernize Requirement for Commercial Drivers
Beginning June 16, 2025, DMV Will No Longer Accept Paper Medical Certificates
WETHERSFIELD – The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced today Commercial Driver License (CDL) customers in Connecticut will no longer submit a paper Medical Examiner’s Certificate due to a new electronic system streamlining this requirement to hold a license.
Beginning June 16, 2025, paper medical examiner certificates will not be accepted for CDL and Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) holders and applicants at Connecticut DMV offices. Certified medical providers will now send the information through a secure national database to the Connecticut DMV.
“This paperless process for CDL and CLP customers to transmit information is another example of the Connecticut DMV making it easier for our customers through modernization,” DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera said. “This change will assist drivers in updating their medical records faster, more accurately and reduce the risk of an outdated medical card.”
Medical providers have until the end of business on the day after the exam to put the information in the database. Customers can check their medical status through the Connecticut DMV website.
