Life Insurance Policy Locator: Begin Your Search
One of the most frequently asked questions the Connecticut Insurance Department gets is from people trying to settle a loved one’s estate but aren’t sure if they left behind a life insurance or annuity policy. Since 2017, the Department has helped nearly 8,000 consumers find those policies and more than $140 million in benefits through this free Life Insurance Policy Locator tool, developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
By providing some basic information about the deceased, the request triggers a nationwide search among participating insurers. Requests are handled confidentially and securely. Insurers compare their records and report any matches to state insurance departments. If a match is found, the insurer contacts the beneficiaries directly within 90 days.
